Write about the following topic:

Many manufactured food and drink products contain high levels of sugar, which causes many health problems. Sugary products should be made more expensive to encourage people to consume less sugar.

Do you agree or disagree?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Many health problems are caused by food and drink containing high levels of sugar, so many people think that the prices of these products should be increased to discourage customers from consuming them. Personally, I slightly disagree with that opinion.

First, it is true to say that sugary products bring many health problems to consumers. It is clear that these products have negative effects toward our teeth. The small pieces from them can stuck between some teeth, creating perfect nutrition source for germs to develope. In fact, a large number of people have dental problems because of eating too much food and drink containing sugar. Moreover, consuming too much sugar can also affect other part of our body, such as heart or filter system. Sugar can cause the increase of blood pressure, which may be good in some particular situation, but mostly harms our heart and creates serious health problems.

However, the idea of increasing the price of sugary food and drink is unlikely to be done. Many people love eating and drinking those products, so making the price higher can make the businesses lose much profit, which no of them want, so they will not risk. Also, there are several other methods to encourage people to consume other food or drinks that better for health. One way is publishing new non-sugary products, and sell them for a reasonable price, just like how Coca-cola did few years ago. This does not just decrease the number of people buying sugary products without losing profits, but also creating good images of the business, which is the reason why Coca-cola stocks rocketed at that time.

In conclusion, while it is true that sugary products affect our health negatively, the idea of increasing price of them is very unrealistic. For instead, we can apply other method such as creating products that have less sugar, so that both business and customer can have benefits.
